UCL East - Creating Authentic Conversations & Capturing Honest Narratives

Designed and facilitated a specialist training workshop for 25 community participants as part of the Voices of East Bank heritage programme. Drawing on my background in journalism, oral history and community engagement, the session explored ethical interviewing, active listening, trust-building and storytelling techniques.

Participants developed practical skills in asking open-ended questions, capturing lived experience and recording oral histories with confidence and sensitivity. The training prepared community researchers to work alongside underrepresented groups and contribute to a living archive celebrating East London's stories, dialects, identities and cultural heritage.

Empowering local people to become custodians of their own community narratives.
