Lemon Meringue Project BBC

My Role:

Oral History Researcher, Cultural Heritage Practitioner & Community Engagement Facilitator

Founded:

BBC, UCL East, The National Lottery Heritage Fund

Artforms & Methods:

Oral History, Heritage Interpretation, Community Research, Storytelling, Living Heritage, Public Engagement

Following the success of my work on Voices of EastBank, I was commissioned by BBC History to source and record authentic Cockney voices decoding and contextualising slang. This was used to build an audio trail for visitors to engage with The Lemon Meringue Rhyming Slang public art by Michael Landy, installed at The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. I  undertook community-based research, conducted interviews and documented dialect heritage, helping audiences to understand east London’s living heritage and to preserve and interpret East End rhyming slang through authentic lived experience and storytelling in the everyday.
